Description
Baseless criticisms in the last two centuries have conditioned our generation to question the authenticity of the epistles written as the early Church unfolded. In the Nineteenth Century, a young William M Ramsay, later Aberdeen’s Regius Professor of Humanity, set out to disprove the Book of Acts by visiting the places therein recorded. Astounded upon finding the geographical and historical details just as described, Ramsay ended up rating Luke as a first-class historian in the ranks of Thucydides, ending all doubts about the historicity of Acts.

However, Ramsay did not get all his chronology right due to incomplete information in his day, which unfortunately contributed to wrong interpretations of some events and people and the time and places where Paul wrote his epistles—half of which is today claimed to be pseudepigrapha, “written after Paul’s death,” while Hebrews, a treatise written when the Jerusalem Temple still stood, is regarded as by an unknown author.

In this treatise, the chronology of Acts is precisely resolved based on the latest available knowledge, even as Luke, through the Holy Spirit, must have intended. This answers the fiercest critics’ claims of internal inconsistencies and shows that all the traditional Pauline documents are indisputably Paul’s, including from where and when he wrote.

Author:

Seng Hoo Lim has been involved in applied science since 1986 as co-founder and CEO of the Cairnhill Metrology Group. A Chartered Accountant, he holds a B.Acc (Hons), 1980, University of Singapore, and an MBA (Deans List), 1997, Nanyang Technological University.

At six, he was moved by the first Commandment, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength” (Mark 12:30), and at ten by John 1:29, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” Seng Hoo experienced the new birth in 1977 and re-dedicated himself to the Lord in 1979.

Once Asia’s second-highest FIDE-rated chess player, in his last outing, he won a blitz competition with 14/15 points during the 1978 Karpov-Korchnoi World Championship in Baguio, qualifying to play in the 1979 Munich International Tournament. Instead, he retired from competitive chess, explaining, in a 2 April 1979 Business Times article, The Misplaced Agony, “The Scriptures record Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane: ‘Being in agony, He prayed more fervently. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling to the ground.’ (Lk 22:44). Chess is a gift, but God’s greatest gift to us is His only begotten Son so that whosoever believes in Him shall have everlasting life. Saving souls is Christ’s agony and should be ours.”

Seng Hoo co-teaches a Men’s Sunday School class at Life Bible-Presbyterian Church in Singapore. He and his wife, Robin, have five children.
