Description
Herein is Love is a series of Bible commentaries for parents to read to their children. They provide what children need most—solid truths to grow in. In these books, Nancy Ganz draws out the beautiful implications of the Old Testament narrative that are foundational for Christian faith.
The beginning books of the Bible are essential to our understanding of God’s redemptive story. The Herein is Love series creatively focuses our attention on the events that bring this story to life, combining the richness of literature and the depth of a commentary.
From the author:
Leviticus is a book in the land of shadows— and children find shadows fascinating. Robert Louis Stevenson knew this. In A Child’s Garden of Verses he wrote “My Shadow” and “Shadow March,” two delightful poems about shadows for children. From my own experience I know this too. When I was a very small child there was an old book at my grandmother’s house that I often asked to see. I called it “The Shadow Book” and I studied the strange pictures in it for hours!
Even when I was older, I retained this interest in shadows. One year I asked my father not to trade in his old movie camera but to give it to me for my Christmas present. How I loved that camera! My very first film at twelve years old was a movie of shadows— surreal dark images of my little sister’s shadow jumping off my grandfather’s woodshed and vanishing into a pool of darkness as her shadow was absorbed into another shadow. (I’m sure my father thought: What a waste of film!) Even now, some of my favourite photographs are the ones where I play with shadows: portraits of people with their profile in shadow on an adjacent wall or a very long shadow leading to a very small child or dark shadow-crosses and thorny branches appearing on the sides of a white chapel wall.
I say all this just to emphasize a point: Shadows are interesting! Much of the interest in Leviticus is finding the shadows, those century-spanning shadows that eventually lead us to Christ and the foot of the cross. This was the way God presented the gospel to us, so we would know that Christ and His crucifixion were God’s plan from the beginning and not just a random event in human history. —Nancy E. Ganz
Author: Nancy Ganz has spent the last twenty years in her native land of Canada, helping her husband, Dr. Richard Ganz, in church-planting work and home-schooling their four daughters. She received her formal theological training from the University of Toronto prior to her conversion to Christ at L'Abri in the Netherlands. However, it has been the many years of Bible study since that time which has produced here Herein is Love commentaries on the Old Testament. Currently, most of her time is spent studying the Scriptures, writing various books, and taking long walks along the country roads and woodland paths near her home.
